At Michigan Cream & Sugar, we are very intentional about sourcing all of our milk from Michigan dairy farmers and all of our sugar from Michigan Sugar Company, a cooperative of 900 Michigan grower-owners. But did you know there’s an extra boost of local in many of our flavors? From apples to zucchini (hey, it could happen), we’re inspired by the rich agricultural bounty in our surrounding communities and around the state. Whenever possible, we strive to use ingredients grown here in Michigan and we also look for opportunities to partner with local businesses. Michigan leads the nation in the production of specialty crops such as apples, cherries, carrots, corn, mint and sugarbeets, making it the second most agriculturally diverse state in the United States!
Did you know Michigan farmers produce more than 300 agricultural products? Learn more about Michigan’s amazing agricultural diversity and find a wealth of information, recipes and more on the Michigan Ag Council website.
Every gallon of our ice cream uses a full three pounds of whole milk from Michigan cows. We get our cream from Prairie Farms and liquid milk and milk powder from the Michigan Milk Producers Association.
Pioneer® sugar, made from Michigan sugarbeets from Michigan Sugar, provides natural sweetness in every flavor we make. And when the flavor includes mix-ins such as caramel, cookies, brownies, oat crisp, fudge, streusel, candied nuts and so on, we use Pioneer® sugar for those, too!
Artisanal chocolate with a local connection? Yes, indeed! You’ll often see us specify Callebaut milk, dark and white chocolate in our ice cream descriptions. You can read more about how high-quality Michigan dairy is key to Callebaut chocolate on the Michigan Milk Producers Association website here.
